The Council for Media Services reports to the European Commission on measures to promote and develop media literacy skills

The Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMS) obliges Member States to promote and adopt measures to develop media literacy skills and report to the Commission on implementing these measures. On behalf of Slovakia, this comprehensive report, based on the Commission's guidelines, was submitted by the Council for Media Services.

The report covers the period from September 2020 to October 2022, i.e. the period after the deadline for transposing the AVMS Directive into national law. Although Slovakia transposed the Directive only by adopting Act No 264/2022 Coll. on Media Services, which entered into force on 1 August 2022, the CMS aimed to record relevant activities for the entire reporting period. The report includes an overview of legislative and organisational measures, information on public funding and other funding in the field of media literacy, and a description of activities aimed at raising awareness of media literacy.
