Media Education Weeks 2026 will feature dozens of events across Slovakia

Workshops, discussions, lectures, exhibitions, a competition for schools, and special activities in libraries. Media Education Weeks 2026 once again offer a diverse program focused on developing critical thinking, media literacy, and safe online behavior.

Why is media literacy more important today than ever before? Read more in the article: Why do we need Media Education Weeks?

Media Education Weeks in Slovak Libraries

This year, 31 libraries from all over Slovakia have joined the initiative, hosting more than 40 events focused on media literacy, recognizing misinformation, critical thinking, and safe online behavior.

Visitors can look forward to workshops, lectures, discussions, and exhibitions for children, young people, and adults. Libraries are, for example, organizing practical sessions focused on recognizing misinformation, verifying online sources, critical thinking, artificial intelligence, and safe online behavior. The program will also include the workshop “Matilda: A Literary Character in the Digital World,” which combines literature, critical thinking, and digital topics for elementary school students. During a preparatory webinar, we presented the workshop methodology to more than 55 librarians from across Slovakia.

The Responsible Influencer Competition

Media Education Weeks also included the nationwide competition called “Responsible Influencer“ for primary and secondary school students. A total of 104 children and young people from 25 schools across Slovakia participated in the competition and submitted 31 audio and video entries.

In their entries, students explored topics such as advertising on social media, the credibility of influencers, manipulative content, and the pressure of the online environment on young people.

The competition results and winning entries can be found in a separate article: The Responsible Influencer Competition: Slovak students addressed topics of advertising and content credibility

In addition, the Media Literacy+ platform has also prepared an online package of materials and educational resources for teachers in Slovak language, which they can use to create activities focused on media literacy.

Special Edition of the Newsletter

To mark the occasion of the Media Education Weeks, a special edition of the Media Literacy+ newsletter was released, featuring a selection of events, teaching materials, workshops, and recommended resources for schools, libraries, and parents.
