Results of monitoring of platform functionalities in relation to the 2024 Election of the President of the Slovak Republic

The Slovak Council for Media Services (CMS) has monitored the functionalities of the digital platforms Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube during the pre-election campaign before the Elections of the President of the Slovak Republic in 2024. The detailed report outlines the activities of the preparatory phase, the monitoring and data collection phase, the evaluation of the findings and the identification of potential deficiencies and comparison of those finding with similar monitoring exercise that CMS performed in relation to the snap elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic in 2023.

The study scope is:

  • comparative assessment of the functionalities of selected platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) in relation to published sponsored political advertisements during the election period and the election campaign during the 2024 presidential elections,
  • description and evaluation of the activities of these platforms related to media literacy in the context of the elections and the election campaign during the 2024 presidential elections,
  • specific cases of online disinformation narratives related to the elections and the election campaign during the 2024 presidential elections.
