Three new members join the Media Literacy+ platform

The Department of Marketing and Business of Comenius University in Bratislava, the civic association Ochráň ma, and the project Konšpirátori.sk presented their activities in the field of media literacy and motivation to become a member of the platform during the meeting of members and observers of the Media Literacy+ platform. The meeting took place online on 16 October 2023.

Attendees were also able to learn about the activities of Lie Detectors, a Belgian organisation working to combat the harmful effects of online misinformation and polarisation on democracy in Europe. It strengthens the media literacy of young people and teachers through courses. "Teachers across the EU consider face-checking an important topic, but only a minimum of them regularly address it in their lessons with students. The main obstacles are time, lack of recognition and training," Juliane von Reppert-Bismarck, the organisation's director, noted in her presentation. The organisation has already had experience in training teachers in Slovakia and expressed interest in further cooperation.
The agenda also included a presentation by NIVAM's representative, Andrej Návojský, who introduced the inclusion of media literacy topics in the new curriculum and updated the audience on support programmes for teachers in this area.
