Monitoring of platform functionalities in relation to the 2023 Elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic

The Analytical Department of the Council for Media Services monitored the functionalities of the digital platforms Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube during the pre-election campaign before the snap elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic in 2023. The detailed report outlines the activities of the preparatory phase, the monitoring and data collection phase, the evaluation of the findings and the identification of potential deficiencies.

The study scope is:

  • comparative assessment of the functionalities of selected platfroms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) in relation to published sponsored political advertisements during the election period and the election campaign during the 2023 elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic, including the identification and description of any identified shortcomings in the sense of the DSA,

  • description and evaluation of the activities of these platforms related to media literacy in the context of the elections and the election campaign during the elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic 2023,

  • specific cases of deepfake videos related to the elections and the election campaign during the 2023 general elections.
